Alan Sanders' 1937 Dodge Truck Build
Last Updated: July 27, 2016
Route 66 Mopar Club member, Alan Sanders, is working on his grandfather's 1937 Dodge Truck which he plans to drop a 345 horsepower rated 5.7 HEMI under the hood, hooked up with a 3 speed automatic/2 speed overdrive transmission, riding on Cragar SS 14" x 8" wheels on the front and 15" x10" wheels on the back. Mustang II front end with coil over suspension, power disc brakes, power steering, Lokar floor mounted shifter, and tilt chrome steering column. Work is being done at Sho-Me Speed in Ozark, MO. |
Mustang II front end suspension work well under way to support the Big HEMI and power disc brakes to slower down! |
The Big 2005 5.7 HEMI is installed, rated at 345 horsepower.
Cragar SS 14" x 8" wheels on the front and 15" x10" wheels on the back mounted.
Interior work has begun, including the installation of the tilt chrome steering column.
Test fired the 5.7 HEMI, runs like a top! Flowmaster 44's sound good. Bleeding |
Just got new windshield frame, really nice fit and quality craftsmanship. |
Still need to lay some fiberglass mat in the headlight buckets there are rusted pin into the bottom of the driver's side and passenger's side is pretty thin also. Once I get that taken care of, I need to make some modifications to the buckets and install the new 12 volt HID adapters. Have tested high and low beams, they work great! |
Temporily installed front fenders, rear fenders, and running boards to check fit. Did minor straightening and installed most of the bolts. Rolled under part of the front fender lip on the driver's side to clear the power steering reservoir and valve cover. Driver's side hood clears fine. Rolled under part of the passenger side front finder lipto help clear front ignition coil bolt (still need more clearance). |
Tail gate is about ready to install, need to make the passenger's side hinge. Still have issues with the front and rear parking lights as well as the turn signals, working on that. Had Sho-Me Speed install a 3.91 sur grip (with pinion seal) and disc brakes on the rear. That's working great. |
Windshield installed, still need to find a mechanism for the crank out windshield. I installed the passenger's side glass and rear window glass. Installed a new 12 volt windshield wiper motor, arm and blade on the driver's side. Have one for the passenger sid, yet to be installed. |
Still working on the driver's side glass, having trouble getting the bottom rail (that connects the glass to the regulator) back in place. Have the headlight harness wired and ready to connect. Getting ready to fabricate the dooor panels, arm rests, glove box lid, wiper motor access covers, kick panels and floor shift console. I plan to make these out of red oak. I see how that works. |
Getting ready to have the front end aligned, now that I have most of the front end sheet metal in place. Still plan to install the front bumper brace and weld & install the bumper before the alignment. Still need to fabricate the battery box lid (under the passenger side seat) and install the back of the seat, currently only the seat bottom installed. Still haven't decided if I will have a body shop striaghten and fix all of the dents, then paint it or leave it "natural" (and call it a rat rod). I still have time to decide, but in the meantime, I plan to put some miles on it. Once it's proven reliable, I'll have Vintage Air installed. Need to figure out what to do about the missing grill and torn radiator shell, that's an ongoing challenge! |
